Research and planning: Production Company Research

I have been looking at different production companies related to my trailer genre in order to be able to come up with a good production company logo I have however considered different name ideas and I do quite like the sound of Xtreme pictures as a name for my production company.

Here are some other examples of horror films production companies:

Hammer Films is a film production company based in the United Kingdom. Founded in 1934, the company is best known for a series of Gothic "Hammer Horror" films made from the mid-1950s until the 1970s. Hammer also produced science fictionthrillersfilm noir and comedies – and in later years, television series. During its most successful years, Hammer dominated the horror film market, enjoying worldwide distribution and considerable financial success. This success was due, in part, to distribution partnerships with major United States studios, such as Warner Bros.

Shattered Dreams Productions, commonly referred to as SDP, was Co-Founded in 2003 by Pablo Macho Maysonet IV as a professional film production company majoring in Horror. Currently based in Southern New Jersey and inspired by filmmakers like Dario Argento, Lucio Fulci, Stanley Kubrick, Robert Rodriguez, John Carpenter, and Park Chan-Wook, SDP's range of influence spans across the globe.SDP are always looking for new talent both infront of and behind the camera. Dedicated to independent filmmakers alike, they continue forming successful relationships with others willing to "risk it all" in the name of horror. However, horror is not SDP's only subject of filmmaking. They have produced films in the Comedy, Drama, Action/Adventure, and Documentary genres of film. Continuing to spread their unique breed of filmmaking across the motion picture platform beyond just horror.

Twisted Pictures.jpg
Twisted Pictures is an American independent production company, mainly creating films of the horror genre. The company was founded in 2004 by Evolution Entertainment's Mark burg, Oren Koules and Gregg Hoffman. They are known for producing the saw film series.
Twisted Pictures was formed after the box office success of Saw in 2004, which lead to a nine-picture distribution deal with Lionsgate. The company went on to produce six sequels in the Saw film series. Carl Mazzocone served as president for four years.
In June 2007, the company formed a joint venue with RKO pictures to remake four films out of RKO library. The remakes include, five come back (1939), I walked with a zombie (1943),The body snatcher (1945), and Bedlam (1946).
In October 2009, Twisted Pictures landed a deal with the The Texas Chainsaw Massacre rights-holders Bob Kuhn and Kim Henkel after discussions with Platinum Dunes fell apart. The deal is for multiple films.
On June 28, 2012, Twisted Pictures opened a new television division. The first production of Twisted Television is a television adaption of Anger Management.

Brain Damage Films' movies are known for their horror aspects and sometimes lower budgets. They are also known for a variety of shock/explotation films, the most notable of which being the traces of death series, which was produced in response to the popularity of the faces of death series.
A majority of the company's library of movies contain sexuality, nudity, gore, graphic violence and many other aspects common to horror movies, making "Brain Damage" a fitting name. Founder darrin rampage is known for expressing his opinion that "everyone is looking for B and B: blood and boobs."  Brain Damage Films created a fan following which continues to grow. The fans are often referred to as "Gorehounds.

Research and planning: Individual post (To do list over half term)

Due to the fact that my partner is absent today I did not have a meeting to discuss what we could both do over the half term so I have decided that I will come up with few posts about audience research.
film name ideas, mise-en-scene choices and do interviews on them and what potential actors should posses to be able to represent and bring the trailer to life along side holding an audition to find actors and creating an audition sign up sheet.

I will also be putting up status on social networks  to find out what my audience think about my trailer ideas. I will also be looking at creating a production company logo and look at the structure to make our film poster and get working on drafts for the film poster idea.

Research and planning: Analysing film poster 2

An establishing shot of a group of young girls show they are the main characters of the film and it also gives us an idea of what its going to be like and what we are to expect from the film.
The colour black with red burning flames gives a clue to what the genre would be about and the fact that all the girls are outside their home and its on fire gives a sense about the narrative and that something is not right that why they are outside.
The fact that the poster objectifies the girls ( they all look pretty and are not fully dressed) tells us the target audience are most likely to be males 16-20above and some females.  it also conforms to the media stereotypical view that women are weak as they all look vulnerable.
The mine-en-sene showing the location   showing the house in the background and we can tell its a poster because of the inclusion of a production company a release date  company logo and also the cast and crews.

Research and planning : Analysing film poster 1

An extreme close up shows the protagonist as the main face on the poster and seeing her gives us a sense that she is the main character in the the film.
the dark colour blurry grey brown shows it scary and unusual  gives us a clue about the genre. Also the fact that it has burning flames in red and and decayed hands drying to drag her down with them give us a clue about the narrative as probably her past trying to hunt her or evil spirits/demons are after her and want to take her to hell.
the girl being strong willed and trying to resist being pulled down  might give us a direction of who the target audience could be like probably 15 - 22 years old mostly females but also males. the audience can be typically seen as women because of the houses behind her on the posters and the fact that she struggling can represent women's fight against oppression. finally the fonts used for the title is bold and big it has little cracks in it as if the flame is burning it up.

Research and planning : Trailer Treatment stage

After the presentation to my teacher, i had a meeting with my partner and we had a talk about our treatment  and what we want our trailer to be structured.
1. we going to start with our BBFC rating .
2. then we are going to show our production logo and distribution company.
3. we are then going to show an establishing shot of the college to tell where our location and what it would likely be based on.
Then it shows a black screen with subtitles saying ''Terror lies within , secrets are being told ''.
4. Next we are going to have a wide shot of our actors in the school just having a group conversations as friends.
5.   we going to have a fast editing pace and a long shot like a montage showing the the lights long lonely corridor  students chatting.
6. long shot of same long lonely corridor strange things happening lights go off.
7.  wide shot same lonely corridor lights have gone off it becomes very dark glowing ghost shadow appears.
8. long shot and long shot of two actors walk through the door see the lights go off again and see the ghost figure walk out the other door in the dark.
9. Action shot of the the two actors running up the stairs to the others.
10. we then going to have a mid shot of he two actors telling the others what just happened.
11. lights go out as they converse they hear some one scream and when it comes back on of of the actors is found unconscious on the floor with a high angle of the others looking down at her.
12. panicked the others run out of  the college and we have a wide shot of them running out the college gate.
fades out to a black screen again ''The awakening has returned terror has just began''
13. A long shot of the actors/students resting near a park around the Conner breathing heavily from running and glad they have escaped from college.
14. then we going to have  a wide shot of them walking into the park.
15.wide shot showing the different path ways in the park and the position of the actors.
16. then it fades into a fast editing mid shot.
More subtitles as it fades out to black again ''Trouble lurks around the corners,''
17. same scene same editing pace to a mid shot of a stalker watching them.
18. same scene but the camera pans back to the shot of the girls
19.  two shot of two the actors conversing .
20. long shot of two of the actors walking away leaving the others and heading towards the direction of the stalker.
Subtitles saying ''The unseen is revealed''
21. suddenly a close up of the psycho face .
22. A jump cut to a knife in his hand using a mid shot view.
23. Then a jump cut back to the others running and screaming in different directions,
24. a long shot back to one of the actors dead on the floor with blood on the shirts and a log on top of the actor.
25. flashing shots of different chase scenes ambient sounds and the psycho lifting a log.
26. it then goes quiet one of the actors most likely the last one seen is standing under a tree resting and trying to catch a breath whilst breathing heavily.
27. then a high angle of the psycho up on the tree looking down at the actor resting underneath
28. then it fades out to black.
29. fade back in to the psycho behind the actor.
''There is no where to hide''
30. actor screams loudly using a close up.
31. fades into black with writing on the screen saying ''Coming Soon'' .

Research and planning: Presentation of proposals

After presenting the two proposals for my horror film trailer, with my partner, to my Media teacher, we were told  that both proposal were good and the first proposal could be said to be based on a true story as  its was once said that a young man has committed suicide in the building and can be said that hi ghost hunts the college. we have decided to merge both proposal in one starting off with the first proposal in college and carrying on with the second for the other part of the trailer. After getting this feedback from the teacher I decided I would try and get even more feedback from members of my target audience and target age range.

Research and plannig: prop and costume list

Mise en scene

this is an example of a low key lightening and we will be needing a lot of these in our trailer as it is a horror genre .

this is an example of high key lightening we would not be needing a lot of these in our trailer but we will use bits of it to emphasis on a character or show peeks.

we can have our actors clothes looking a bit bloody and messy to add real effect to the trailer.

we will be needing a knife to make it look scary and blood on the knife to make it more believable and realistic .

our location is similar to this as its in a park but its a lot scarier and darker as we want it t o put fear in the audience/viewers.

this is an image of our audience looking scared. we want them to be able to feel the terror of the actors in the movie and we going to be playing with their primal fears as that what our trailer is about.
